A Quick Glance at Fancy Dress Costumes and What to Wear

When considering what fancy dress costumes to wear to a fancy dress party, one has to think about what can be pulled off. For example, a tall, lithe person can dress up as a famous movie star or other glamorous person. The rest of us, who are short and on the dumpy side of fifty years old, have to get creative. I knew some people who were invited to a Henry the VIII party where you had to dress as someone from that court. They went as executioners and carried a basket with a wig in it that looked like someone's head. That's a great costume for the less lithe among us. My favorite costume that I wore for a social event was of a Bible character, Eve. I went to the thrift store and bought clothing that had animal prints, since once Adam and Eve were kicked out of the Garden of Eden, they were clothed in animal skins. I also carried an apple, although the Bible says it was a fruit, not necessarily an apple. It was a great role for me to play, since it focused on the story in the Bible rather than my ability to emulate the rich and famous!
